LAHORE: A 40-year-old man killed his wife and later committed suicide by hanging himself in the Mustafabad police area on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Yasmeen and her husband Wasim, a painter by profession. The couple got married around eight years ago, and had a one-and-a-half-year-old daughter. Police said that Wasim seemed to be an addict and mentally upset due to unemployment and poverty, which seemingly was the main issue behind the tragic incident.
Police said that the couple had quarreled several times before over some domestic issues. On the day of the incident, they again quarreled and Wasim left his daughter with his elder brother Tanvir – who also lived in the same house on the ground floor – and went upstairs, where the couple continued to exchange harsh words. Wasim then took a sharp-edged weapon and stabbed his wife before slitting her throat.
Wasim then committed suicide by hanging himself with a ceiling fan. The other family members went upstairs to inquire about the couple, but found them dead. Upon being informed, police, an Edhi ambulance and a number of locals reached the spot. Police collected evidence from the crime scene and removed the body to the morgue.
