Twelve way Use of Vicks VapoRub you Never Know

You know how people say, “Some things never change”? When it comes to cures for the common cold, this could not be more true. Chances are that you still use your mom’s chicken soup recipe and Vick’s VapoRub for yourself and your family. Why? Because it works!

Twelve way Use of Vicks VapoRub you Never Know

Vick’s VapoRub has become the tried and true classic for clearing up chest congestion, but did you know that there’s more that this medicine cabinet staple can do besides help you on the road to recovery? These surprising tips and tricks will make you see VapoRub in a whole new light. Did you know about any of these?

1. Aromatherapy

If your humidifier has an aromatherapy compartment, add some VapoRub to circulate around an entire room. This is great way to clear congestion if you’re sick or just freshen up a room with the scent of Vick’s.

2. Soothe sore muscles

If you went a little too hard in spin class, rub some VapoRub on your muscles after an intense workout to help soothe soreness and inflammation. Check out tip #10 for another pain-reliving benefit of VapoRub.

3. Stop a squeaky door hinge

Watch this video to learn how to whip up a bath of shower bombs using Vick’s VapoRub. Use one of these the next time you have the sniffles to steam away all your congestion.

If a squeaky door is driving you crazy and you’re out of WD-40, rub a little VapoRub on the door hinge. VapoRub has a petroleum jelly (also known as Vaseline) base, so it will oil the hinge and stop the squeaks!

4. Ease earache pain

For mild earaches, place VapoRub on a cotton ball and put it in your ear to reduce the pain (be careful — it should just sit gently in the cup of your ear. Don’t push it into the ear canal!). VapoRub will not treat an earache, but it will at least make the pain a little bit more manageable.

5. Use it on your lips

Apply a small amount of VapoRub for fuller, softer lips. VapoRub contains menthol, which is a natural lip plumper. Since it is also made from Vaseline (petroleum jelly), it will soften your lips too. Be careful to not apply this to chapped or cracked lips, as the menthol can irritate them.

Be sure to look at tip #11 for another way VapoRub can soften your skin.

6. Cover up unpleasant smells

Whether you’re changing Jr.’s diaper or taking out the trash, there are a lot of stinky jobs where we wish we could just hold our breaths and hope for the best. Put a little VapoRub under your nostrils (but be careful not to get it inside your nose!). The strong and distinctive smell is actually pretty effective at blocking those odors we’d rather not experience.

7. DIY Vick’s VapoRub shower bombs

8. Cure toenail fungus

Studies have found thymol, an ingredient in VapoRub, is effective at treating toenail fungus. Wash your feet thoroughly and dry them. Apply VapoRub to the affected toenails, getting into all the nooks and crannies, and apply it under the nail if possible. Wrap the nail in a band-aid and keep it clean. It might take anywhere from 10 days to six weeks to cure the fungus, so repeat the process with your doctor’s advice until the fungus is gone.

9. Soothe tennis elbow

Your backhand on the court was killer, but unfortunately, all that’s left of your performance is that throbbing in your elbow. A little VapoRub will soothe your aches and pains and get you back on track to Wimbledon.

10. Soften your heels

If you suffer from dry, cracked heels, there is hope! Rub a little VapoRub on your heels at night and then wrap them in super soft socks to seal in its amazing moisturizing abilities. Your heels will feel like a baby’s in no time.
