Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif urges for PPP-MQM reconciliation
KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday held a meeting with Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan, urging them to play role for peace in Karachi.
Earlier in the day, the PM arrived in the metropolis on his brief visit aimed at reviewing law-and-order following Thursday’s shutdown against killing of Muttahida Qaumi Movement workers.
According to Samaa correspondent, the PM held a meeting at Governor House with CM and Governor Sindh wherein he urged both the high-ups to mend their differences with negotiations.
Source said the PM was of the view that the CM, who is a veteran political of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and Governor Sindh, who represents MQM, should come forward to forge political reconciliation and harmony in order to restore peace in Karachi.
In the meeting, sources said, the Prime Minister stressed upon the need of negotiations between PPP and MQM to defuse tension between the two former allies.
Sources said the meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere.
Meanwhile, the PM also presided over a meeting and reviewed law and order situation in the city. DG Rangers, Inspector General Sindh and other high-rank officers briefed the PM about progress regarding the probe into the killing of MQM worker Sohail Ahmed.
