Pakistan Supreme Court Order Immediate ban Jang, Geo Group
ISLAMABAD: Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) Saturday filed a petition in Supreme Court of Pakistan against Jang/Geo Group calling for an immediate ban on the Geo TV.
In the plea filed the petitioners Chairman SIC, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, and Advocate Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi, has demanded of the apex court to litigate the six accused including Jang Group of Companies owner, Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman under Article 6 of Constitution of Pakistan.
According to sources, The morning show host Dr Shaista Lodhi, actress Veena Malik, and her husband Assad Bashir Khattak are also among the respondents, whereas president and prime minister of Pakistan have been made a party through their secretaries.
The petitioners have also urged the top court to enter the names of those six main accused on Exit Control List (ECL) to bar them from leaving the country.
Condemnations flooded in from all the religious schools of thought against Geo TV for hurting the religious sentiments of Muslims by playing manqabat ‘ Ali Ke Saath Hai Zahra Ki Shaadi’ as the background score of actress Veena Malik and Assad Bashir’s wedding ceremony reenactment in a morning show on Wednesday.
Issuing a fatwa (religious edict) that watching Geo TV is haram (forbidden according to Islamic teachings), Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) Thursday demanded of the government of Pakistan to slap a ban on all the Jang/Geo Group satellite channels just like it did in YouTube’s case.
