MQM female MPA announces resignation after Altaf Hussain speech
Irum Azeem Farooque, a female member of Sindh Assembly belonging to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), announced her resignation following Altaf Hussain’s speech that led to attacks on media offices in Karachi.
In a statement on Twitter, Irum said she felt embarrassed to watch the videos of MQM workers ransacking ARY News office and clashing with police.
“Today I resign. Already did it two days ago but didn’t disclose Bec (because) of the Hunger strike. After watching the videos, I feel very embarrassed,” she wrote on Twitter.
Government decides to seal all MQM offices
The Sindh government on Monday decided to shut down all offices of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) after party’s violent protests and provocative speeches in Karachi.
According to our correspondent, a heavy contingent of the paramilitary Rangers raided the MQM’s headquarters Nine Zero and detained several party’s leaders and activists.
Women personnel of the Rangers also took part in the raid.
“We will take action against the MQM as per the law after today’s slogans,” Maula Bux Chandio, Special Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, told the media persons.
“Law enforcement agencies have already swung into action and arrests are being made,” he said, adding that the slogans chanted by the MQM were of very serious nature.
