Madonna make documentary about killing victim Qandeel Baloch
Pop legend Madonna said this week she’s proud she narrated a new film about the late Qandeel Baloch, a Pakistani celebrity she calls “unabashedly bold and fiercely beautiful.”
Baloch was dishonourably killed by her brother in June for “sullying his family’s honour.” He was arrested in July, and said he didn’t have any regrets about murdering his sister. The film, ‘Qandeel Baloch: A Very Short Story,” is made by two-time Academy winning Pakistani filmmaker Sharbeen Obaid Chinoy, a personal friend of Madonna’s.
In the film, Madonna describes how Qandeel’s actions “polarized a nation,” drawing heavy criticism from religious conservatives on the one hand, and gaining legions of fans on social media on the other.
“But she fought them all, until the day she was attacked in her own home by her own brother,” Madonna said in a Facebook post earlier this week. The seven-time Grammy Award winner also said she was happy “positive change” was occuring in Pakistan.
