In Karachi, a belated World Dance Day celebration is being organized at the open a{r_theatreat the Arts Council on May 3rd. Saturday night. ‘Raqs Mein Hai Sara Jahan 2014′ is an annual event, an open-for-all. fuss-free, non-ticketed affair for all and sundry to come and celebrate the diversity of dance in Pakistan!

Brace yourselves for a flurry of high-energy performances; an ensemble of as many as nine dancers and their troupes will take the stage this year. Nighat Chaudhry will lead in Kathak performances, and will be followed by fellow Kathak dancers Farrukh Darbar and Adnan Jahangir. Munawar Chao and Subaee Abro are set to entrance us with Bharatnatyam.. Add to that the first ever dramatic rendition of the traditional upbeat Do Chapi dance by a Balochi troupe led by Tariq Murad – a performance that will be set to music by folk legend Faiz Baloch. A Sufi piece is expected of The Wahab Shah & Saba Rana Dance Company from Lahore. If you were impressed by the break dancing segments of Joshinder Chaggar’s Conversations last year, grab the chance to experience the frenzied footwork again, as b-boy Zeo-James will be adding to the variety of the show. The audience will also see the graceful actress-dancer Sabiha Zia perform at the event.

In Islamabad, a Music Mela is on-going till Sunday, a mela that will be quite informative, given that it will also offer three days’ worth of master workshops and panel discussions about the music industry! And that’s only going to add to the guaranteed musical thrills on offer, as Poor Rich Boy, Khumariyaan. Imran Aziz Mian. Qayaas. Zeb & Haniya. Mekaal Hasan Band are due to perform in a series of live concerts! That’s qawwali. fusion, rock, indie folk all packed into one weekend!
