KARACHI: Business and all kind of civic activities closed in Karachi, Hyderabad and other cities of Sindh when the news came that MQM chief Altaf Hussain has been arrested in London in money laundering case.
Reports said London Metropolitan police raided house of Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief and arrested him in the case. Sources said his residence has been sealed by the Scotland Yard which is investigating several cases against the MQM chief, including murder of MQM’s Imran Farooq.[dailymotion x1y9jxf]
Soon after Pakistani media channels aired the news, shops, markets, filling stations, offices and education institutions started shutting down in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and other towns of Sindh.
Police and Rangers started patrolling in the city to maintain law and order. The government has put law-enforcing agencies on high alert in the wake of any untoward situation.
MQM’s Coordination Committee called an urgent meeting at party headquarters, Nine Zero, where a large number of party workers gathered receiving the news.
